Middle School Schedule Wait Time

Dear TRAFFIX Middle School Parents and Caregivers,

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we would like parents to know in advance that there will be a wait time for TRAFFIX bus afternoon pickup from the middle schools on the dates listed below. We hope this advance notice will help with your planning for the upcoming school year.

There will be supervision at the school on these dates for students and lunch will be provided until the bus arrives. More information will come from your school:

  1. Los Cerros:
    1. Minimum Days: 10/2, 10/3, 10/4, 10/5, 10/6, 3/20, 3/21, 3/22 & 6/5 (Students released at 12:15 p.m. – Bus will pick up students at 12:45 m.)
  1. Pine Valley: REVISED SCHEDULE:
    1. Conference Week: 10/2, 10/3, 10/4, 10/5, 10/6 & 3/20, 3/21 & 3/22 (Students released at 12:00 p.m. – Bus will pick up students at 12:45 m.)
  1. Minimum Days: 6/5 (Students released 12:15 p.m. – Bus will pick up students at 12:45 m.)

The minimum, specific and special early release route schedules for the 2023/24 school year are posted online at www.RideTraffix.com. Simply hover your mouse over Find Your Route and then click on All TRAFFIX routes

The reason there will be wait time for students on these dates is because TRAFFIX uses what is called a “tiered bus” system. This means the same physical bus serves the elementary schools and middle school’s routes (for example, the bus that serves the PV11 route also serves the WD11 route). This system is used to maximize program resources to serve families effectively and to ensure fiscal responsibility of taxpayer money. We invite you to learn more about how TRAFFIX is funded through a 1/2 cent sales tax in Contra Costa County: https://www.ridetraffix.com/about-traffix/. On some early release or minimum days, the bell schedules at the elementary and middle schools mean there is a wait time for pickup of middle school students.

We want to assure you that once the school year begins, traffic engineers will be evaluating the routes and studying route times and efficiencies across the entire TRAFFIX system. This means it’s possible the wait time for middle school students on these dates may be lessened. We will be in touch if an adjustment is made.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership. We appreciate your trust and confidence in the TRAFFIX program. Please reach out to admin@ridetraffix.com with any questions.

Best Regards,

Kellie Fahey

2022-2023 POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR RIDERS AND DRIVERS

DRIVER SELF CHECK

Drivers will self-check on an honor system.  If drivers show any signs or symptoms of being sick, they need to stay at home.  Drivers will also be asked a series of self-check questions when they log into the First Student Computer Program at minimum twice a day.

    DRIVER PPE/REPLENISH

All drivers will receive a “go Bag” of PPE.  Items will include:

  • Adult Face Masks
  • Gloves
  • Plastic Trash Bags

                                                      DRIVER CLEANING PROCESS/PROTOCOL

  1. All roof vents in buses will be open at all times to increase ventilation.  Windows will be open as weather permits.
  2. Drivers will have access to spray bottles (or foggers) with disinfectant solution and paper towels.
  3. Drivers will be trained on disinfecting the buses via video/PowerPoint and hands on training.
  4. Additional spray bottle, foggers, and PPE will be housed onsite at the Concord First Student location and will be available to the drivers as needed.

IF A DRIVER SUSPECTS A STUDENT IS SHOWING SIGNS OF BEING SICK:

The drivers will have the student board the bus and the driver will assign a seat for that student and maintain 3 feet of physical distancing from the other students.  The driver will immediately call Dispatch to inform them that they will need an administrator at the school site upon arrival.  The driver will unload that student last to address concerns about the student and then surrender him/her to the administrator.
